The Tazewell Soil & Water Conservation District is a non-profit organization which cooperates with local, state and federal governments, and local citizens, groups and businesses to preserve the nation's soil and water resources. All programs are provided without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national orgin, age or physical or mental handicap. The District programs are administered by a five-member Board of Directors. It is composed of local citizens, familiar with local problems, who serve without pay. Three of these are elected in the November election for three-year terms, and two are appointed by the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Board. One of the appointed directors, by state mandate, is a Virginia Cooperative Extension Service Agent. The District Office is housed in the USDA Service Center and is located on Route 16, (727R West Riverside Drive) in the Riverjack section of North Tazewell. Office hours are from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The District telephone number is (267) 988-9588. |
